Have had this little no. finished for a few days now - it only took a couple of days to make in all and it was a huge amount of fun to do - but hell does it look odd! Demented, wonky eyed and scary enough that the kids won't go near it.
He was inspired by some cute 'owl' hats posted on the facebook page of North Pole/Alaskan Crochet guru http://www.mamacheecrochetpatterns.com - I thought i'd have a go inventing one myself, a bit of a riff on the old granny square dare I say it.....and here he is.
I've named him Gilmore "Utu-twit -tiwoo" the Owl - named after the major news story of the week - that being of the ultimate resignation of political dorkus Aaron "don't you know who I am" Gilmore. He's a rather gormless looking 'owl', a vision in national party blue with slightly unpleasant pubic tinged brown fuzzy wool edging and a bit of unsubstantial beige fluff holding things together.
Gilmore will probably go straight to the bottom of the dress up box rather than the pool room as such......oh well I had a blast crocheting my biggest granny square to date!
Earlier in the week I found a cool free pattern for a plaited crocheted neck cuff....it actually is supposed to have 4 strands to the plait but I didn't have enough wool to make four strands so had to make do with 3 - I think it came out great and I'm looking forward to a day that is cold enough to wear it. I especially love the buttons - they're had made from South Africa and are all little works of art in their own right. If you're into the pattern then let me know I will post it up (a pdf) - its super super easy and quick even if you;re a beginner like me.
An oldy but a goodie......an infinity scarf I made for my daughter Ella - I am a real basic beginner crochet'er and this was super quick easy and looks amazing. I am quite proud of it to be frank.....I will hunt out the freebie pattern again and flick it on to anyone else who wants to try it out....highly recommend especially if you're into instant gratification for short attention span projects like I am.
Below = pre-Easter 2013....My first granny squares....and the "mollie makes" magazine project driving it all......
and a week later...post Easter....I'm proud creator of 1 mix n match slipper and a good way thru the squares required for second 'slipper' of pair.....
but...then I got to thinking about wintery times and those cool ass chunky infinity scarves and my beautiful new chunky rosewood crochet needle....and so this is what I'm cranking out at an unbelieveable rate (i can say that cause it is blowing my mind how cool this crochet is.....) ....tune in for next update. xx R
